Alliance Senior Vice President, Research and Advanced Engineering
As Senior Vice President, Nissan Motor Co., and also the Alliance Senior Vice President, Research and Advanced Engineering, Takao Asami has a wide ranging role, which includes building the company’s strategy in the research and technology space to ensure that it remains a competitive force in the future.
Takao Asami has spent more than 30 years working for Nissan, joining in 1981. He spent 15 years working through the company before moving to Nissan Technical Centre North America in Detroit, in the United States, in 1995. Six years later, when Nissan launched its IT Engineering Department, Takao Asami returned to Japan to lead the team and help develop the company’s expertise.
In April 2006 he transferred to Nissan’s Alliance partner, Renault. Three years later he was back at Nissan as the Corporate Vice President in charge of the Nissan Research Centre. Takao Asami was appointed as Senior Vice President in charge of Technology Planning and Advanced Engineering in April 2013. He was appointed to his current role in April 2014.
Takao Asami is a graduate of the University of Tokyo (Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering) and the University of Southern California (Master of Sciences in Electrical Engineering).
